Using a custom domain for your knowledge base
Hi, friend! So, you want to give your knowledge base a unique and personal touch - a very wise move for your branding. We're here to guide you on how to use a custom domain for your knowledge base. Let's get started!
Setting up your custom domain
First and foremost, you'll need to make sure you have your desired domain name registered with a domain provider. Once that's done, follow these steps:
Login to your Fernand account.
Head over to the 'Settings' menu.
Click on the 'Knowledge Base' tab.
Locate and click on the 'Domain' section.
Enter your registered domain in the 'Custom Domain' field.
Press 'Save changes'.
Configuring your DNS settings
To ensure your domain points to your knowledge base, you'll need to update your DNS settings with your domain provider. It’s necessary to add a CNAME record pointing to our service. Below is a generic example. You should check with your domain provider for specific instructions.
Type: CNAME
Host: yoursubdomain
Points to: knowledge.yourcompany.com
Please be patient
One important detail to bear in mind is that DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate across the internet. If your knowledge base doesn't appear immediately at your custom domain, don't panic. The chances are that everything is working perfectly, it just needs a little time.
Securing your knowledge base
Branding is important, but so is security! Once your domain is properly connected, we automatically enforce HTTPS for all traffic to your knowledge base, thanks to our built-in LetsEncrypt integration. That's right, it's one less thing for you to worry about!
We hope this guide makes your custom domain setup process a breeze. If you have any hiccups along the way, don't hesitate to reach out. We're here to help. Happy branding!
